A Red Letter Day

Callooh Callay! She chortled in her joy. Yeah, it's a joyful day; I figured out how to use the washer/dryer in our Cordoba VRBO and clean clothes are just flyin' out of it.

It's the little things in life you treasure.

Otherwise we had a pretty normal day. Since we're here for three weeks, we went grocery shopping and are having breakfast in. You know, el cafe y pan, algo mantequilla, el yogur y algunas naranajas. Just some stuff to have while sitting around catching up on what's going on in the states.

Today we planned on checking out a craft beer bar. We walked the mile or so to the place only to find it was closed. You're thinking, "you should have checked the internet to see their hours," and I'm wondering if you even know me. One of the things that really bugs me over here is you can never trust Google, an establishment's own website, or even the hours posted on their front door. It's pretty much a crap shoot. And COVID hasn't helped. Bars and restaurants close and open on a whim...you really do have to just walk up to them and see. We'll try the bar again on Tuesday (most places really are closed on Mondays).

So we wandered a bit, stopped for a beer and a nosh.

This place had waiters walking around with trays of these little planks full of tapas. You see one you like, take it, and they charge you .90 euro. We had five planks, two small beers and a bottle of water for 8 euro.

We strolled down to the Mosque. This is a side entrance. They're renovating the front, so this is the prettier view. We'll go in later this week - the inside is wondrous.

This is the gate to the Puente Romano.

And the Roman Forum - ruins just around the corner from our apartment.

It absolutely amazes me that soooo many civilizations made their home in Spain; I mean I get it, what's not to love? There are Roman ruins, Muslim Mosques, Jewish remnants, deep Spanish culture, a huge Christian/Catholic footprint, and a modern diverse/non-religious people living here because they can.

We have a couple of days to do whatever we want - I'm thinking explore the city and eat and drink ourselves into oblivion - but Wednesday, we head to Jerez for a city tour and a sherry tasting.

Today marks the halfway point of this adventure. It has flown by.
